Frankie Goes to Chile – Quiksilver Ceremonial Punta De Lobos gets Green Light

The Green Light for the 2013 Quiksilver Ceremonial Punta de Lobos has been given for 4 June and Cape Town’s big wave madman Frank Solomon has cracked an invite. Frank’s been on the road for the last eight months chasing large swells in the North and South Pacific, and was due to return home yesterday when they made the call to run. After some quick changing of plans Frank’s now on his way to Chile to charge in this Big Wave World Tour (BWWT) event.

The first time Frank competed at the Ceremonial Punta De Lobos in 2011 he managed to make the semi-finals (as well as scoop the coveted cover of Zigzag Issue 35.5), so this time around he’ll be hoping for an even better performance and a spot on the podium.

The contest site of Punta De Lobos is a perfect left point that can handle some serious swell. When it’s small it looks like this:

But when the Pacific Ocean whips into a frenzy, then those perfect walls turn into something more along the lines of this:

For a goofyfoot like Frank it’s one of the best big wave lefts around, so he’ll no doubt be enjoying the chance to go balls-to-the-wall.

When competition resumes on 4 June, you can check out the official contest site on http://quiksilver-ceremonial.cl/ for Heats on Demand, Photos, Results and News from the event as it happens.
