Yes, everybody loves Shot Bru…
www.shotbru.co.za is Zag’s reader photo portal, which keeps getting better by the upload – we’ve just received our 27,323rd image, but there’s also over 300 videos submitted by Shot Bru members – a rad one by David Van Rensburg of a firing Cape beachie on New Years Day 2013 can be viewed below:
What started out with Zag readers posting in their slides or prints via snail mail way back in the pre-digital age, morphed into the simple sign-up-and-upload portal we have today. Shot Bru now boasts over 1700 members, some of whom have gone on to become full-time professional photographers, like Zag’s very own Assistant Editor Alan Van Gysen, who cut his photographic teeth submitting his first surf shots to Shot Bru.
AVG has since become one of the world’s most published and recognised surf photographers, and there’s young guys like Durban’s Matt van Wierengen, PE’s Kody McGregor and Cape Town shooter Daniel Grebe, who are looking to follow in AVG’s footprints in the sand.
Besides the exposure amateur photographers get from submitting their images to Shot Bru, there’s always been the added benefit of winning sick prizes, and this year is no different – Each issue of Zag we give away a Go Pro Hero 3 Black Edition to the winning Shot Bru image, as well as a killer clothing and accessories hamper from Hurley for the runner-up image.
But perhaps the best thing about Shot Bru, is the fact that it is a great place to share your surfing stoke, upload evidence of amazing waves you and your crew scored, or catch an update of what the swell was looking like on the other side of the country as readers upload their surfing moments.
