Mr Price withdraws sponsorship of Mr Price Pro

It was announced today that the Mr Price group will no longer be sponsoring the annual Mr Price Pro Six Star WQS Prime event in Ballito.

After taking over as the event’s main sponsor in 1999, group executive Stuart Bird stated in the Mercury this morning that the “new properties, particularly in fashion, would be more relevant” for the group.

It’s not difficult to see why Ballito has remained the host location for six years running.

The Mr Price Pro moved from Durban to Balito in 2009, and is reported to be staying there, at least for 2015.

While there is currently no mention of a new umbrella sponsor to jump in and fill the gap, it’s been confirmed that the contest will be backed by the ASP as well as the KwaDukuza Municipality next year, who have pumped in approximately R2.6m worth of support annually.

The rating and QS points for the event will remain the same.

The comp has always attracted a large crowd, which attracts positive spikes in the local economy.
