After a lengthy flat spell, the waves finally came to life in Cape Town. Your friendly neighbourhood surf photographer, Anthony Fox, was primed and walked away with another great selection of images from this day. Check out the slideshow of cooking Kommetjie along with Ant’s interesting insights.

What I really dig this sequence was that it shows just how good the banks are at the moment. It was not this breaks usual take off barrel. There was serious length of ride.

Shooting from the beach is not my forte, but definitely something I’m working on. It’s defiantly not easy to capture a great lifestyle surfing shot with a long lens. Here I tried to offer a narrative by layering up some elements - the foamies, the wave about to break and the slight angle of the beach in the foreground. The two guys walking towards the peak also helps draw you into it all.

Dave cracks one off the top and pops his fins. Notice how he’s already looking at the next section for more of the above.

The crowd came and went consistently as the peaks changed. Not much space to move out there when I shot this.

Earlier in the afternoon I gave it a little go with the housing…

I was trying to work a different angle here. I wanted to get that line of sand in the foreground to emulate that Hossegor shorebreak look. You know? Where the waves break close to the beach.

Okay! I was actually trying to shoot the guy going left in the background – blaming this one on the autofocus…

Poised perfectly and about to swing into a full roti here. It was priceless watching local boy, Brendan Gibbens, being let loose after the flat spell.
