Ant’s Insight – Viva Summer!

Matt Bromley and I saw this session coming on the charts and arranged the shoot. When the waves finally came it was a bit iffy and this was the only real hook up we scored. I was told later that the shark spotters had seen a Johnnie cruising the lineup - always nice to know after the fact!

Deen Hill is a regular at this spot. He is also a freakishly good tube rider and usually clocks plenty barrel time.

Brendan Gibbens is as comfortable in the barrel as he is boosting. Watching him surf is a pure enjoyment.

Brom-dogs compo board meant little to the Atlantic offloading on the shallow bank.

Matt Kleynhans is ex-KSI. He grew up smashing Long Beach to smithereens. Matt was showing typical zero tolerance out there.

I like the depth in this shot! The rock adds some foreground amusement while Matt swoops behind for some tube time.

A day later and the swell finally throbbed. With the notorious summer flat spells in full swing here in Cape Town days like these are rare.

Gibbens snags a thick one down the beach. He was driving hard to keep up with this mega froth monster. Not easy with the amount of water moving around in the solid grinders - especially for yours truly swimming through it.

Paul Daniel on what was easily the thickest barrel I have witnessed out here in months. Regardless, I was bummed with this sequence to be honest. I was out of position and shooting on Aperture mode. So it was a little too far away and there is a hint of motion blur in one of the shots due to the light moving out of the clouds and the light changing. Sigh - could have been epic!
