Hawaii week in review through the lens of Brad Masters...

11/12/09

Damien Fahrenfort cracks the whip on a borrowed small wave Saber.

Unknown surfer threads the lava ledge at Backdoor.

With bigger, heavier, more perfect waves being scored elsewhere in the world the North Shore could be loosing its luster as the ‘ultimate proving grounds’ of surfing. However, it cannot be denied that each winter the islands throw the best end of year performance free-surfing carnival all under one roof.

Iconic Off the Wall

Pacific wildlife.

Hawaiian, Flynn Novak, hucks out a lanky forehand reverse.

Banzai Pipeline, the worlds most notorious left.

Onshore what! With a perfectly levered lava reef lining up the faces and smoothing out the chop all you need is a decent period swell to really score.

Waiemea Shore break.

They call these fellas black sets! A rouge 35-foot wall catches the hooligans who dared to take on the washy conditions on offer at Waiemea the day before the Eddie.

The picturesque angle and angelic back lighting makes this Waiemea cliff-face look dishonestly charming. Shot from the left and it’s rutted man-eating beast.

Like jumping from the fourth floor balcony into a pool - no sweat bru!

Parting shot.
