A colossal 8.8 magnitude earthquake rocked Chile on Saturday morning (3:34 a.m. 27 Feb) prompting tsunami warnings around the entire Pacific ocean. The epicenter was off the coast, about 200 miles southwest of the capital. Tsunamis around 2.5 metres were reported hitting the coastal town of Talcahuano, in central Chile. Overall 122 people have been recorded dead with the Chilean death toll expected to rise. Hawaii and many other Pacific nations have warned their people of tidal waves reaching up to 3 metres could hit. Some have already taken measures to evacuate coastal populations. Tahiti is one of the first coastlines in the firing line of the potential tsunamis which is estemated to hit around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday (South African time). Meanwhile, the Quiksilver Pro, Gold Coast, in Australia, currently taking place, is around 17 hours within the Tsunami travel window.
