Mick Pollock, honorary life member of the Border Surfing Association, passed away in East London yesterday (10 February). Mick had a profound influence on surfing in East London. He was president and secretary of BSA for many years, and was a pioneer of the surf industry in the area: the eponymous Pollock Sports was run by him and his sons John and Dave in the 70's and 80's. The genesis of the business goes back to 1943 when Mick started Quicks. The shop was a hub for the local surf community. |
