A ridiculously heavy, shallow and DANGEROUS ledge in EL, whose name is changing to ‘off limits’. This wave has seriously hammered some of ELs top surfers who charge it regularly. The boys who have been surfing here are super protective of this spot. Partly because they understand that it is only a matter of time before someone gets really hurt badly there.

This is breaking in 2-foot of water. Andre ‘Herbie’ Malherbe, a local charger who has earned springbok caps and numerous other accolades told me about a wipeout here where he slammed into the reef, got washed into a crevice and was squeezed through a v - shaped wedge before popping up gasping for air. Herbie actually mentioned that he was seriously fearing for his life.

After a couple of months in Australia, Kyle Galloway came back to EL with some skills to burn. When he left SA he surfed well, but NOW he absolutely rips. Funny what a few months can do to your surfing. All you lighties, go to Aus for a while!

Gary Muller with a classic bottom turn at the point. Gary was seen going absolutely ballistic at Devyn Mattheys' wedding and numbers nightclub the night before. Seems like he still handled these waves like a pro. Must be something to do with his iron-man training.

The aptly named Graveyards is another fickle semi secret EL spot which is such fun, but can really dish out a hefty klap over its shallow reef. A couple of years ago, Andre Malherbe went surfing there with Durban veteran ripper, Robin Lavery. Robin was wipedout on a wave and ended up with a rock stuck in his head.

This wave peaks on the outside, the good ones wedging into a hollow barrel on the inside - right in front of rocks. Big Jono Bruton muscled his way through the barrel of the day. He pulled in after take-off and came speeding out the exit on the inside.

How does this guy get so many bombs? Jono hadn’t surfed for a couple of weeks before this session. Still, he was pin point for a disproportionate amount of smokers this day.

Kevin O'Brien is one of SA’s hidden talents. He and his mates, Andre Malherbe and Dean Ewers, are dialled into the ever-changing conditions in EL. They are always on the best waves in Town.

Wayne "Monkey" Monk still surfs better than most guys half his age with the same style and power that has won him a couple of SA titles and national colours.
