Help support Kelly Johns this Saturday

14/01/10 ~ By Admin ~

The John’s family spear headed by prominent Zululand surfer, Alan Johns, is putting on a day to remember this Saturday to help raise funds for his sister, Kelly, who remains in a critical condition after being tragically hit by a car in December.

This Saturday (16 January) ‘Kicking for Kelly’ will start with a surf contest at Surfers Lane at 7am before moving on to Suburban Play in Umhlali for an indoor football game. The full on family shin dig starts right after that at 10am with SA Rugby stars, AJ Venter, Rory Kocket attending to help out.

Meanwhile, Aaron McIlroy will be MC’ing the festive part of the day with classic live music by Damian McIlroy (of the Blarney Brothers). To end, an auction will be held at 4pm with rugby and football memorabilia, weekends away, pamper packages up for grabs.

3 Weeks to the day of her accident and the breakthrough we have been waiting for has occurred! Kelly made the effort to open her eyes and tried to communicate with us on Wednesday. She even tried to smile at us as she started to recognise the people around her. Although still in ICU - the doctors and nursing staff are now very positive that she has turned the corner towards recovery and it now is up to Kelly to see how quickly she is able to fully communicate with us. We continue to stimulate her both verbally and visually and she continues to respond with positive gestures. Her hand and leg movements are far less sporadic and are more controlled and Kelly looks a lot less distressed.  ‘High Care’. here we come!
