Billabong re-sign's top Junior surfer Tarryn Chudleigh

23/02/10 - 13:31:13PM ~ By Admin ~

Tarryn's goal is to crack the elite woman's surfing World Tour.

Billabong has announced the re-signing of arguably one of the most highly acclaimed competitive female surfers in South Africa. Tarryn Chudleigh (20) who hails from Kommetjie in the Western Cape has established herself as a rising star in South African womens surfing.

“I’m super excited to have re-signed with Billabong again this year. I feel confident going into the New Year backed by such a supportive and strong company.” said the proud goofy footer.

This naturaly talented young lady, who has been part of the Billabong Girls surf team since she was 12 years old, has a proven competetive track record to boot. As a former Billabong Junior Series champion, multiple SA girls champion as well as current member of the South African womens surf team, Tarryn’s competitive accolades bear testament to her determined and foccussed ambition to become a World Championship Tour surfer.

To pursue this goal, Tarryn spent the whole of last year earning her stripes on the cut-throat World Qualifying Series, finishing up in a very commendable 33rd place overall. 2010 sees Tarryn apply her trade once again on the W.Q.S in the hope of qualifying for a highly sought after spot on the W.C.T. “I’m heading off to the first W.Q.S contest in West Aus in mid March,” explained the excitable 20 year old.

“My goals for 2010 are to make the Top 6 on the ‘Q.S and qualify for the 2011 world circuit.”

“I’ve been training pretty hard with my surfing and fitness so that I can perform at the best of my ability” claimed Tarryn, in preparation for the intense physical and mental strain that a full year of surfing and travelling abroad can demand.

Aside from her role of professional surfer and women’s ambassador, Tarryn has a creative, quirky and artistic side to her that many people are unaware of. One of the mediums through which this part of her character is revealed is via her personal blog. “I’m actually in the process of renovating my blog, so keep tuned; it’s going to be bigger and better and full of my daily excursions into the big wide world” said Tarryn, who invites anyone to follow her eccentric adventures at http://tarryn-likeseriously.blogspot.com/
Billabong’s design department has also collaborated with Tarryn and will be introducing a co-op signature tee that will hit stores in the Billabong Hi-Summer 2010 range around November later this year. “I’ve had so much fun working on my signature tee,” remarked Tarryn. “It’s been a dream of mine to have something I designed from Billabong and I can’t wait to see it in store”

Tarryn is also starring in a six-part reality show of the Billabong Girls Get Out There Tour which will be aired on Vuzu, channel 123 on DSTV, starting on the 4th of March. The show documents the journey undertaken by Tarryn and 7 other Billabong ambassadors as they travelled from Jeffreys Bay to Durban and all the way back to Cape Town in a bright pink bus, exploring the South African coastline. “I’m extremely excited about this venture as it’s an amazing opportunity to grow my profile,” said the Kommetjie local.

Billabong team manager, Ryan Payne was extremely excited to have Tarryn rejoin the team. “It’s not often you get an athlete like Tarryn; she is hardworking, driven and extremely talented. Tarryn is also stylish and fashion conscious which shines through her appearance, art, photos and writing. She ticks off all the boxes as a role model as well as a professional athlete and we are ecstatic that Tarryn will continue to represent the brand!”
