Sardine Run Update - Monday 13.7.2010

13/07/10 - 13:05:40PM ~ By Mike Anderson-Reade - KZN Sharks Board ~

Slight increase in activity over the week end with 30 baskets being netted at Umgababa on Saturday afternoon. Sunday was very quiet with the seine netters chasing their tails between Warner Beach and Scottburgh. No netting took place. Fish were seen rounding the point at Port Edward late yesterday afternoon.

This morning (Monday 13 July) there have been reports of increased activity along the lower south coast with some substantial shoals being seen behind the backline. The fish are however moving fairly quickly and with the current strong south westerly wind and increasing swell size it is very doubtful that any netting will take place today. The outlook however is promising for when this weather system passes by and at this stage Wednesday could hopefully see fairly intense activity on the south coast. Staff on the south coast are currently working in fairly rough sea conditions removing the shark safety gear.
Regards,
