Earthquake hits northern Sumatra on Friday 5th of March

An earthquake rocked Indonesia around midnight on Friday 5th of March (Around 4pm SA time). The epicenter was offshore, about 150 kilometers off the coast of northern Sumatra. No Pacific tsunami alert was issued and there are still no reports of damage or injuries.

This latest quake occurred in the vicinity of the Padang quake which killed more than 1000 people in September last year.
