The Mavericks 12 – A dozen big wave hellmen vie for invitation into the next Mavericks Contest

Imagine everything you have ever learned about the ocean being put to the test in a split second in a life or death situation. A situation where you purposely paddle into a massive mountain of water, where one wrong move could put you under a 50 foot wall of water before violently thrashing and dragging you deeper and deeper. In these situations you find your survival instincts, a nature that you had no idea you possessed. Where the results could be severe as death, and the reward, well the reward is simply the thrill of the ride.

Maverick's 12 is a documentary of a dozen big wave hellmen trying as hard as they can to get invited into the Maverick's Contest. The Maverick's event is an elite invitational that is very hard to get into. But don't tell that to the crew of party crashers who are banging on the door and want in. The word "NO" is not in their vocabulary. These guys will stop at nothing to break in. Some of them have won other big wave contests and Billabong XXL Awards. They are not your average 'Johnny come lately's', they are very established big wave surfers making a mark in the biggest  waves in the world.

Last years Maverick's event saw the biggest waves ever surfed in a surf contest. This year the competitors are being voted in by their peers. Last year's results will draw the line in the sand on who is out and who is in. The bottom 11 will be placed on the chopping block and they will choose who is worthy, and who is to be replaced - replaced by a few good men from the Mavericks 12.

The Mavericks 12 documents the 12 alternates as they jockey for their selection into the Mav’s contest over the 2010/11 California Big Wave season. Not everyone of the Maverick's 12 will be invited, so there will definitely be some drama. And once the voting is over, then the real games begin when the 'Big Day' arrives and the Mav's event is called on.
