South African surfer Brendon Thomas is the newly appointed editor of Surfer Magazine, the world’s most famous surf periodical. Brendon's wingman at Surfer is another South African, former Warner Beach natural foot Grant Ellis, which means that the world's most established surf title is being secretly run by proxy from the Zigzag offices (we joke, but the Saffas got the big seats).
Surfer Magazine was founded in 1959 by John Severson and is recognised as the longest running surf magazine in the world, leaving Brendon with the responsibility of steering a very important ship in world surfing. Brendon cut his teeth in the surf publication world as a humble columnist for the Zag before being noticed by Surfer Magazine's then-editor Chris Mauro, who asked if he could contribute stories to Surfer. BT was appointed as Assistant Editor in 2007 and relocated to California with his South African wife Kelly.
Grant Ellis has been Surfer magazine's Photo Editor since 2003 and is another Chris Mauro call up. Seems Africa is the place for magazine editorial staff recruitments.
