VOTING OPEN FOR MAY’S BEST RIDE

25/05/11 - 00:00:00AM ~ By Admin ~

Paris Basson gets a thick Kalk Bay shack for his entry. Filmed by Neil Webster / Fixerfilms

Barrels, barrels, more crazy barrels and the odd mental air.
Voting is now open for the May leg of the Oakley One Wave Wonder, and there’s a crazy mix of rides in contention for this month’s R10 000 prize and second last slot as a finalist in the running for the mega R50 000 prize for Ride of the Season. The videographer / photographer hardly goes away empty handed either, with a split in the monthly R10 000 loot and a shot at an ultimate all-expenses paid trip for two to G-Land, made possible by the legends at All Aboard Surf Travel.

And like any good democracy, your vote helps decide the winner! Just log onto www.1wavewonder.co.za and simply click the ‘vote for this entry’ button next to the clip you like. The public vote (that means you) counts for a hefty 50% in deciding the winner, combined with another 50% vote from a panel of One Wave Wonder judges.

The public don't go away empty handed either – just e-mail calvin@zigzag.co.za with the name of the clip that you voted for and you will be entered into a draw to win a rad pair of Oakley Batwolf sunglasses, valued at R2000.

The winning doesn’t stop there either. Legendary SA shaper Spider Murphy has also come on board with a quality custom shape worth R3000 going to the best U16 grom clip every month along with a pair of Oakley Batwolf sunglasses, valued at R2000. The best-produced video clip – not necessarily the winning action clip – also receives a quality stick from Spinny.

There have been some incredible entries this month, with a couple of epic rides from Supertubes - including a few from Shaun Joubert, who looks like he could be training hard for a possible spot as a wildcard in this this year's Billabong Pro J-Bay. Then there’s a triple tuberide from Gavin Roberts somewhere along the KZN coast, a North Beach shack of note from Twiggy, Jordy hucks a massive air reverse and Ian Armstrong and Paris Basson get shacked at grinding Kalk Bay. That's just to name a few...log on now to check all the crazy action on www.1wavewonder.co.za.

Question
Should fishermen be allowed to pull a trek net through the lineup and bathing area at Surfer’s Corner in Muizenberg?

Yes, people’s lives depend on it (food). The surfers and bathers have alternatives.

No, people’s lives depend on it (shark attacks). The fishermen have alternatives.

No opinion either way, don’t care, doesn’t make a difference to the universe, etc.
