Congratulations, you are the 10000th upload (and you’ve won a Quiksilver hamper)
We know you’ve secretly always wanted to click one of these hideous flashing gifs, a legacy from Internet 1.0, when people apparently believed they actually were the 999,999th visitor and clicking the link would take you to your free prize. The prize may have been a Geocities looking site that installed a whole lot of malware. But here’s a nasty flashing gif you can safely click. The link takes you through to shobru.co.za, where the 10000th upload really has won a prize. An insane one too: A Quiksilver Cypher steamer, and a beach towel, cap, wallet, belt and backpack: that’s R5600 worth of swag all courtesy of long time shot bru supporters Quik. Shot Bru grew out of the ambers of our old Scene In Action pages of the mag almost 15 years ago, but the electronic incarnation has only existed for a year or three. 2 years, 3 months and 27 days to be accurate. So to reach 10000 uploads in such a short space of time is something we’re quite excited about. The 10000th upload is from Patrick Peggs, of Cape Town ripper Jordan Alexander getting slotted at Llandudno. Congratulations Patrick, 10000 is a much more auspicious number than 9999, so the Quik gear is yours. (* technically the 10k upload was from our ad exec Doug Browne, who thinks we want to see photos of his trip to Bali, but the fineprint informs us the only thing he’s going to win is a trip to the office kitchen to make us coffee).

Shotbru has a few less rules than the main mag. You don’t have to be a top surfer doing the latest double bolomakise, you don’t even have to be a particularly rich photographer with the latest, greatest and fanciest rig. It does remain a trial by jury though. Good shots gets voted up by your fellow shotbru.co.za members, or featured on the top header. The best shots make the cut for the main mag and the monthly zigzag.co.za slideshows. Blurry or bad shots get voted down and disappear into the one star rating wastelands, or earn the occasional nasty comment. Waveski and SUP shots gets deleted immediately due to a technical glitch. We have having our developer look into the problem. Click here to go to the Shot Bru portal to check out the 9 999 other epic reader submitted pics and to upload some of your own. Quik and Olympus cameras supply the main prizes for each issue’s winning entry, and the overall shot bru winner for 2011 will win a four night stay at the extremely swish “On the Beach” guest house in J-Bay. Click here if you want to stay in J-Bay in style, or just have a look at what the grand prize is all about.
Thanks to the Quiksilver crew for an insane 10000th upload prize. Join shotbru.co.za if you’re not already a member.
