After much hype and anticipation, the Indian Ocean came to the party on Sunday February 20 February thanks to a staunch flow of easterly swell being swept in from the Mozambique channel.
It wasn’t all-time New Pier, but it was certainly the best 4-6 foot action the piers have seen in a long, long time with some epic tubes on offer. But it was literally survival of the fittest with a conveyor belt rip keeping the pack paddling for the inside while dodging drop-ins and thick lips. Greg Emslie was in town and snuck in a few of the best pits of the day, joining the likes of Jason Ribbink, Lyle Botcher and plenty other of the local crew.
