Waimea Bay goes Womp on Monday the 8th of December

08/12/09 - 10:25:25AM ~ By Admin ~

Last night, while most of us were preparing for beddie-bye, the much-heralded ‘biggest waves to whallop the North Shore in 40 years’ was making hay in Hawaii. Of course last night for us in SA was Monday morning in Hawaii and the North Shore was waking up to the thump of the Pacific.

Clearly the forecast was common knowledge in Hawaii and most of Oahu headed to Waimea Bay in the wee hours of the morn to witness the specticale and wait for the Eddie to go. Unfortunately the massive surf coincided with a cross-shore/onshore wind making the 18-30-foot (Hawaiian style) faces look ominous. Wanting more favorable conditions, the Eddie was yellow-carded until Tuesday morning (tonight SA time). Regardless, this did little to some of the competitors (and a lot of non competitors) who were determed to take on the Bay.

Check the latest video offering handed to us by our connections down under, ASL magazine, on some of the action and interviews at the Bay yesterday. For daily videos coming out of Hawaii check their ‘ASLoha’ series – Click Here
