Jason Hearn has spent the past few years scouring the African coastline along with Zag and various crews of Saffa surfers and photographers. His project he called 'The Africa Project' and his aim was to showcase the amazing surf and culture of our vast continent.
You've seen some of their discoveries printed in our mag during this time; right point bliss in Morocco, Ricky and Royden shredding Senegal, Dave Weare, Dan Redman and Dale Staples scoring in Reunion, and that's just to name a few of the destinations exposed in this movie.
The premiere is tonight at Trinity, 15 Bennett Street, Green Point, Cape Town. It's free and all are welcome to go and see this exciting showcase of Africa's true potential. We caught up with Jason to check if he's nervous before tonight's big reveal:
ZAG: Howzit bru, if you would be so kind as to describe the Africa Project in less than twenty words. JASON: OK cool, well it's a film that explores the coastline of Africa through the eyes of a surfer.
When you go on these surf missions with the crew, they've got their boardbags packed full of boards, and sometimes they get stung for excess baggage charges. How much equipment do you travel with, and are you stung with extra charges? My hand luggage weighs over 20kg's, so I'm always getting hit for excess luggage.
Are you nervous about how the surfing public are going to perceive the movie? For sure I'm nervous, it's human nature, but I still watch each section and get sucked in, even after seeing the film a million times. So hopefully this means something and the public will feel the same way.
What sort of feeling or message would you say the guys who watch this movie will leave the premiere with? You will leave absolutely proud to be African. The film is going to change the perception that Indo is where you find good waves.
You've been to some interesting and potentially dangerous locations to shoot this movie. What's the heaviest experience you've had on one of these missions? Getting caught up on a dodgy beach in Morrocco by local gangs. A friend had to basically fly in with his car as we jumped in and got away before things truly got out of hand.
Do you have a favourite section in the movie? No way, each section lives and breaths on it's own.
How long before the surfing public can get their hands on a copy? I'll hopefully have copies ready for our late January roadshow from Cape Town to Durban. Unless I get some proper funding, then it will come out free with the Zag in the early months of next year.
Any parting words before the big premiere tomorrow night? Get down to Trinity in Cape Town tonight, Friday 25 November, to witness the beauty that is Africa.
Well you've heard the man, make sure you're there.

It's not just our African neighbours that feature in The Africa Project. You can't ignore the fact that our very own coastline is perhaps one of the finest in the world when it comes to waves.
