The Legend - an African Roadtrip

02/11/11 - 12:41:34PM ~ By Admin ~

Richards bay local Jeffrey van Rooyen is about to embark on an unusual road trip to South Africa's surfing Mecca of Jeffrey's Bay. Instead of boarding a flight, renting a car, or taking a bus, Jeffrey's mode of transport is going to be his own two feet and a thumb.

Jeff is planning on making it all the way to Jeffreys Bay the hardcore way, by hitching and walking the coastline between Richards Bay and his final destination of Supertubes, a wave he's dreamt about surfing since he can remember. He'll be stopping at as many spots along the way with his trusty "the legend" surfboard tucked under his arm. This is what Jeffrey had to say about his journey:

Howzit Guys, I'm Jeffrey van Rooyen and I live in Richards Bay, KZN. I love surfing, and any surfer can tell you the reason why. I'm going on a journey from Richards Bay down to Jeffrey's Bay making stops at any town with a beach to meet fellow surfers. If you see me you can slide over a donation however small or large it is, whether it's a bit of cash or a lucky charm, anything to keep me hopeful and able to carry on. And in return you can carve your name into my memorial surfboard "the legend". I'm trying to raise money to help stop animal abuse, and ask all surfers to take part in this cause. I will be donating the raised money to the SPCA. I'm also doing this so that I can finally accomplish the dream I've had since grom years... To surf the waves of J-Bay.
The Legend - his trusty steed.

Enjoy the adventure Jeffrey, we dig your style...

Question
Should fishermen be allowed to pull a trek net through the lineup and bathing area at Surfer’s Corner in Muizenberg?

Yes, people’s lives depend on it (food). The surfers and bathers have alternatives.

No, people’s lives depend on it (shark attacks). The fishermen have alternatives.

No opinion either way, don’t care, doesn’t make a difference to the universe, etc.
